Summer Lessons; Registration and Tuition for Fall; Payments Now Due; Composition Camp

Saturday, June 1, 2024 | Uncategorized

Students who began lessons last July or August have paid for 39 lessons. If you look at the Attendance Lesson Notes (icon is a person with a check mark, then you will need to click on the notes icon for the individual lesson), I indicate how many lessons you have had thus far. You have until approximately July 31 to complete these lessons.

Beginning with 10 June, I will be teaching regular individual lessons on Mondays and Tuesdays, but you will need to sign up for those lessons. Please note that some of you may need to have more than one weekly lesson to complete your 39 lessons before 31 July.

PLEASE plan to take at least a few lessons this summer. In my 38 years’ experience as an Independent Music Teacher, I have seen time and again that students who do not continue lessons during the summer spend the first several months in the fall getting back up to the level they were playing in the spring.

I am offering some summer lessons for those of you who will have completed your academic year lessons, and want extra lessons. These summer lessons will not count toward your total for the academic year. You may schedule lessons once a week, twice a week, or even once a month!

Tuition for Summer 2024 Lesson Packages will be:

    THREE (3) 45-minute individual lessons + 15-minute computer lab and/or theory games            $135.00

    FIVE (5) 45-minute individual lessons + 15-minute computer lab and/or theory games               $200.00

To waive the $40 registration fee per student for the 2024-2025 academic year, sign up for the purple Registration event on my website calendar by midnight on Saturday, 29 June. You will also need to pay the first installment of tuition for the upcoming year by July 1. Music Outreach Program students please also sign up there.

Like this past year, annual tuition is based on the term from 1 July 2024 through 31 July 2025; you will receive 39 lessons:  approximately 36 lessons through 31 May 2025 and three (3) lessons during June or July 2025.

You may choose one annual tuition payment due 1 July, or two semester tuition payments, due 1 July and 1 January, or 12 monthly payments, due 1 July and the first of each month after that.

The Registration Fee for the 2024-2025 academic year is $40 per student, unless you sign up for the Early Bird Discount by midnight 29 June.

Please be sure to check that ALL of your tuition, music scores, fees, etc.  for this (2023-2024) year are paid by Saturday, 15 June 2024 to avoid a $25.00 late fee. You may see your total due on my website. Go to “Account and Invoices” (the icon looks like a torn vertical sheet). If it says Balance Paid and the dollar number is green, you owe nothing. That amount may be subtracted from your future payment. If it says Balance Owing and the dollar number is red, that is the amount you owe before 15 June 2024.

If you are interested in doing a Composition Camp this summer, please sign up for the lime Composition Camp event on my website calendar by midnight on Monday, 3 June. Composition Camp will be $150 this year. See more details on the event 3 June. If you have not already done so, please send me an email regarding which weeks/times you are available.

Thank you for reading this far and enjoy your summer!

Performance Opportunity May 18th

Monday, April 29, 2024 | Uncategorized

This spring, Schoen Music Studio and Encore Studio will be holding three Mini Recitals at Grand Lodge at the Preserve (a retirement community) at 4400 S 80th Street in Lincoln on Saturday, 18 May 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00pm.

Please plan to stay for the entire time of your mini recital to listen to other students’ performances. And plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled performance.

As many of you know, I am a member of Lincoln Music Teachers Association (LMTA) and their Music Outreach Program (MOP). One of the requirements of MOP is to hold at least one recital in a senior living residence.

I am especially encouraging students who took the Federation Festival Theory Test but did not perform for the judge to play on this recital. MOP students are strongly encouraged to perform at this recital. Other students are definitely welcome to perform. Repertoire may be the same as the Festival on 6 April, or if you’d like to do a new piece, that’s fine, too. Junior Composer entrants may wish to have their original composition performed. Pieces do NOT need to be memorized.

If you will perform, please go to my website calendar and sign up on which recital (1:00, 1:45, or 2:30) you’d like to perform on 18 May so we can plan the recital program order. If you already know you will NOT be able to perform, please let me know.

This performance will include students of Debra Heald and Nancy Schoen. Number of performers will be limited by the short length of the recital, and participation will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Please do invite relatives, friends and neighbors, to help celebrate your accomplishments!

Appropriate attire for the recital is dresses or skirts, nice slacks, shirt with a color, and possibly a tie; preferably no casual flip flops or tennis shoes, if possible. AND NO GUM OR CANDY!!!!!

If you have any questions about the recital (or anything else) please do not hesitate to ask me.

I look forward to hearing you perform and sharing that Saturday afternoon with you!

Omigosh!! A Portable ACOUSTIC Piano!

Tuesday, April 9, 2024 | Uncategorized

Well, who'd have guessed?! This article is about the Keybird, a new portable acoustic piano, weighing in at only 130 pounds. It only has 69 keys instead of 88, missing the lower 1 1/2 octaves. You can even take it apart and it will fit in the trunk of a car!
